How To Choose Your Wedding Cake

Monday, March 28th, 2011

One of my favorite parts about the wedding, is the cake. Over time many things have changed with weddings, but one thing that stays the same, there is always a beautiful cake. The wedding cake is a big part of the wedding, and something ‘everyone” remembers. So when deciding on which cake is right for your perfect day, there are many factors to take into consideration.

When is your wedding?

The date and location of your wedding is crucial when choosing the cake. For example if you plan on having your wedding in the summer at a hot location, things like mousse, or even ice cream cake might be out of the question Ask your baker what types of cake are in “season”

How big will the cake be?

Wedding cakes can come in all shapes and sizes. Traditional cakes which have several tiers are normally a great choice, and one your guests will remember. Depending on how many guests you have your options are limitless. Of course the biggest factor in deciding how large your wedding cake should be, is knowing how man guests you will have.

What’s your flavor?

Depending on the style of the cake, you have many different options. If the cake is multiple tiers, many people are choosing to have several different kinds of cake. Each level can be different, offering something for everyone. With wedding almost anything goes when it comes to the cake.

What kind of Icing?

Traditionally icing has been white or a light cream color. However today, many are matching their icing color with the overall theme of the wedding.. The actually icing can be a simple sugar and flour recipe, or even a rich cream cheese icing. There are many great icing ideas online which are sure to please even the most picky guests.

Decorations

Decorating a cake is only limited by your imagination. Some couples design the cake around the décor or theme of the wedding. While others give the cake a unique look, with crazy and outrageous decorations which define who they are. Most Depend on what you need, bakers decorate cakes with the look of lace, embroidery appliqué or elegant drapes or swag.

Your wedding cake should be as individual as you. The worst thing you can do when choosing a cake is just “settling.” Shop around a bit, decided on the cake, style and decorations, and find a baker who is willing to accommodate you. Many couples even order their cakes as much as 6 months ahead of time to insure they get what they want.

Unique Wedding Cakes

Monday, June 1st, 2009

Weddings are a once in a lifetime event for a couple. So it is only natural that no stone is left unturned to make it an affair to remember. The culmination of a wedding is the reception. The centerpiece at the reception is usually an elaborate wedding cake. The frosting is usually white, to symbolize purity and newness. They are often made in tiers, or levels, and there is usually some form of elaborate decoration.

For one, theme weddings can be a portal to truly creative wedding cake ideas. A medieval theme wedding would warrant a cake to be laced with pearls and a golden crown. An adventure-loving couple could have a cake topped with miniature figurines of the newlyweds in a small plane or a motorcycle. A Victorian theme wedding, for that matter, could have a cake adorned with bows and Victorian roses. For an Oriental-themed wedding, a cake with two tiers topped with a vase filled with edible handmade orchid is perfect.

Also, the theme for a wedding cake could depend on one’s favorite flower, whether it is sunflower, pansy, bird-of-paradise, rose etc. A talented cake designer can replicate bridal bouquets on the cake or a garden akin to one’s yard, complete with picket fences.

Then there are seasonal themed cakes. Seasonal themes give the cake designer license to let his imagination run free. For weddings that are set for the fall season, the cake can be adorned with grapes, grape leaves and chrysanthemums. The summer-themed wedding cakes can be accentuated with bows and white daisies.

Also, there are wedding cakes based on one’s favorite jewelry. The diamond lover can have a stunning diamond themed cake, though that can be an expensive option. For the jade lover, the cake can be made to look like a stack of complex shaped jade boxes. Also, there are wedding cakes based on china patterns.

For a truly unique wedding cake, it is best to talk to the cake designer, preferably weeks before the wedding date. Though there will always be that urge to come up with that particularly outstanding design yourself, there is no harm in picking the brains of a professional who does it for a living.

They excel, as well as take pleasure, in capturing the tender moments that only occur on such an occasion. These photographers capture delighted couple’s merriment in such a way as to make them eternal. They are documenting the events of they day, but more importantly the emotion of the guests. The primary focus of a wedding photographer may be the client, but they have to be highly aware of everything that is going on, so as not to miss poignant moment. The photographer must always be on scene, but should blend into the background rather than being the face with the guests. This allows him or her to capture true, candid emotion.

Wedding photographers are well known for their brilliant ways of documenting that action of the day. Wedding photographers merge ingenuous photography and photo journalism, which brings a professional touch a couples photographs of their wedding day. Hiring a professional photographer makes the difference between photographs that look sloppy and lifeless and photographs that tell a story. It is easy to tell if someone had a good photographer for their wedding when looking at picture. If compared side by side, one would be flat and a simple picture where as the other would have emotions and life jumping of the surface.

We can safely say that wedding photographers are prized for their skill, creativity and intuition. They balance taking whimsical and passionate pictures but in a professional way. They manage their work as if it was their own wedding. They are the masters of their job. Finding a good wedding photographer is an imperative task while planning the big day.
